Awarded Project: "A model to visualize CD4 T cell responses to non-pathogenic E. coli"

A model to visualize CD4 T cell responses to non-pathogenic E. coli

Stephen McSorley recently received a two year grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to study “A model to visualize CD4 T cell responses to non-pathogenic E. coli”.  This grant will examine how host lymphocytes sense and regulate the composition of the normal intestinal microbiota.  Understanding how non-pathogenic bacteria are controlled within the intestine is an important new area of research, especially since recent work shows that these bacteria can have a major effect on chronic diseases and the ability of patients to respond successfully to a variety of therapeutics.
