Dr. Nicole Baumgarth was recently awarded a Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation research award, “Reversing Borrelia burgdorferi-induced immune suppression with novel immunotherapies”.  A functioning immune system is indispensable for protection from infections and for supporting treatments designed to clear infections and resolve disease symptoms.  Dr. Baumgarth proposes to test their hypothesis that B. burgdoreferi infection suppresses germinal center-induced B cell immunity by altering T helper cell functions and by interfering with the normal function of complement to enhance the B cell responses.  For more information on Dr. Bamgarth’s research program please click here.
