In this slice a duct (D) is noted. Multiple coarse lobules are studding the duct. When the duct tree shows many foci close together of ductal hyperplasias there seems to be a "field effect" for these lesions to become cancerous.

A single focus of 5-8 coarse ductules appears in this image. One ductule is outlined by 3 arrows.

At higher magnification, irregular spaces are seen surrounded by pleomorphic "streaming" of the cells. This is DUCTAL HYPERPLASIA, FLORID (DHF). It is considered a benign hyperplasia even though it has a necrotic center.
