Our very own Dr. Murray B. Gardner was one of the researchers mentioned in the article “13 UC Davis Discoveries That Changed Our World” listed as no. 8 under Biomedical Sciences and Medicine section. Murray Gardner and his colleagues in the Medical and Veterinary Schools were able to isolate the retroviruses that caused fatal immunodeficiency disease resembling AIDS in monkeys at the CNPRC. This work led to one of the 1st eight NIH funded Centers for AIDS Research(CFAR) and helped develop the concept for a Comparative Medicine Center at UC Davis.
